Farah

Farah
  • Name: Farah
  • Year of birth: 1823
  • Age in 1880: 57
  • Species: Cat
  • Race: Abyssinian

(Without a last name. In Abyssinian naming traditions, a person's full name consists of their given name followed by their father's given name. Therefore, surnames do not exist, and everyone exclusively inherits their father's name, which follows their own. This same rule applies to both men and women.)

Born a pure Abyssinian cat, she emigrated from her homeland to Sicily alongside her husband Elias to escape the violent territorial and religious conflicts of the Era of the Princes (between 1830 and 1855). Arriving in a new country at the young age of 17, while her husband was 20, she settled gratefully on Domenico Verdi's land as a servant, bringing along their daughter Caterina, who was a year and a half old at the time.

An untiring homemaker with a true passion for cooking and sewing, Farah completely integrated into her new life, adopting the traditional customs and elegant attire of a Sicilian matriarch. Her daily outfit features a distinctive floral head covering and a traditional coral necklace, completed by a dark shawl. This black shawl is worn out of deep, permanent mourning for Franco, whom she truly loved and cherished exactly like her own son.

Despite her deep integration into the local culture, Farah possesses a beautifully progressive and protective spirit. She actually tried her best to convince Caterina not to wear the heavy black dress that Sicilian widows traditionally wear for the rest of their lives. Farah constantly reminded her daughter that Franco had met and fallen in love with her as a colorful, radiant bride, and she urged Caterina to keep carrying the vibrant folklore of her Abyssinian origins rather than shrouding herself in eternal darkness.

Farah is also a woman of profound love and well-kept secrets. While her husband Elias has absolutely no idea, it was actually Farah who secretly acted as an accomplice to the two young lovers, quietly helping them coordinate and execute their fateful fuitina to ensure they could be together.

Throughout her life, she served as a foundational pillar for the family. Following Franco's untimely death, she focused all her maternal devotion on her grandchildren, treating her grandson Arancino like a little prince and doing everything in her power to shield him from the bitter hardships outside their family circle.

A gentle, hardworking, and deeply devoted woman, Farah is the quiet heart and the ultimate peacemaker of the Verdi household.
